It's a wrap
Wrap up warm this autumn/winter season, but make sure you wear your knits with flair - gone are the hugely oversized styles – this season it’s all about your silhouette.
Fine knits were a big story on the runway, particularly when worn with smart trousers. Some had strong patterns or stripes (Y-3, Versace), others plain and you can wear them on their own or over a very fitted shirt (as seen at Marc Jacobs and Dsquared2).
If you like a good old polo neck you’ll also find plenty of great options –some plain, some with a pattern, some thicker than others, etc. But wear them with smart trousers and lace-up shoes, a side parting and Brylcreem in your hair if you want to style yourself on the Versace show and avoid looking dated.
Classic Christmas motifs are also making a comeback, but the colours used are more subtle that the OTT versions: for example deep burgundy and grey – no green and red combos in sight – creating an air of sophistication.
If you like colour you’re in for a treat. Brights are big this season – Burberry Prorsum had a fabulous orange knit that might explain why they wore shades – and D&G had some great cardigans in vibrant stripes.
On the subject of cardigans, thick cardies look great worn as jackets (Pringle of Scotland, Etro), or slightly larger to dress down an outfit in that effortless way that only a rock star can (Paul Smith).
