The dream dies

Well, what an underwhelming experience that was. The World Cup, for me, has come and gone already, with England barely raising a whimper. You’ve probably guessed that I like football, so for me this is the sporting pinnacle – but never have I felt so deflated as I did yesterday when Germany well and truly crushed us.

Lampard’s effort was a goal, but I reckon we would have lost any way. And we deserved to lose. There was no fight, no crunching tackles, no Butcher-esque head wounds… Nothing to inspire. Another four years to wait? It will be longer than that as England need to re-build.
